Perinatal Behavioral Health Associate

Sarah Gabriel (she/ella) BSW, MSW, LGSW, CD(DONA), joined the Clark Parent & Child Network Prenatal-Neonatal Pillar as a Perinatal Behavioral Health Associate in August 2022. Sarah provides services in English and Spanish to persons during pregnancy and after childbirth through the DC Mother-Baby Wellness Initiative. She received her BSW and MSW from Salisbury University, her Social Work License in Washington, D.C., and is a certified Birth Doula with DONA International.

Prior to joining the Developing Brain Institute, Sarah served as a Group Prenatal Care Facilitator through the March of Dimes, as a Social Worker on the University of Maryland’s Mom and Baby mobile health bus and for many years supported families through the DC public school system. She believes that preventable birth trauma occurs at an unacceptable rate, and she wants to play an active role in improving the experiences of birthing persons in the District. Sarah is passionate about raising the standard of care for all birthing persons because she believes everyone deserves equal access to the highest standard of care and trauma-informed services regardless of the outcome of their pregnancy.

Sarah’s most recent work has centered around supporting families experiencing a difficult diagnosis or pregnancy/neonatal loss. She is trained in holding space for pregnancy loss and maintains a deep commitment to providing trauma-informed, patient-centered care for every birthing person she serves.
