Kirsten Barboza, BA, joined the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) as a Research Technician III in September 2022. As a research technician, Kirsten not only collaborates with MRI technologists to ensure that quality data is acquired, but also conducts preprocessing on images, such as reconstructing high-resolution images of the fetal brain. Kirsten is a recent graduate from the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania with a major in neuroscience and a minor in chemistry. Her senior thesis focused on determining any potential association between neighborhood or parental socioeconomic status and childhood brain development. Moreover, the five years Kirsten worked as a camp counselor for the YMCA, ensuring that children of all backgrounds had safe and fun development, ignited her passion for working with children. Both her background in the social drivers of health and her experience working with children enrich the data acquisition process at DBI.
