Breann Powell, BS

Maternity Care Specialist

Breann Powell, BS, joined the Developing Brain Institute (DBI) as a Maternity Care Specialist in May 2022. Prior to joining the team, Breann attended Worcester State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health with a minor in Psychology. Throughout her coursework and internship experiences, she developed an interest in social determinants of health, health equity and community health education. In her previous role as a Community Health Worker, Breann worked with patients insured by Medicaid to improve their social determinants of health (such as needs for housing and food insecurity) and to educate and empower them about how to advocate for themselves in a medical setting. Most recently, she worked as a Donor Program Coordinator with California Cryobank where she helped people to realize their dreams of creating a family via artificial reproductive technologies. As a result of these work settings, Breann gained experience working with an interdisciplinary group of clinicians and community partners to build strategic and collaborative relationships which have helped to improve patients’ health outcomes. She continues to dedicate her professional growth to improving access to care and health literacy among minority populations. Breann is very excited to join DBI and the PCORI-funded Mommy & Me team and now looks forward to assisting Black mothers as they navigate the healthcare system in the Washington D.C. area
