Anika Clark, BS, joined the Developing Brain Institute as a Maternity Care Specialist in June 2022. Anika comes from a small town in Mississippi where her passion for children and helping others began at a young age and continues through her adulthood. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi University for Women, where she concentrated in maternal and child health. She always has had an interest in this population and coming into this work has been such a great experience. Anika is obtaining her Master of Social Work degree from Walden University and plans obtain her clinical license in the near future. She is also currently pursuing midwifery and doula certifications and plans to be certified by 2023. Anika transferred from our sister site, at THEARC, where she helped pediatric patients and their families address any needs that were not being met within their communities. This was accomplished through completing social determinants of health screeners and connecting them with resources throughout Washington, D.C., Wards 7 and 8. Anika will leverage this knowledge and experience to assist Black mothers and families in the Mommy&Me study to further help with connect participants with missed or unknown resources available within their communities.
